随佛长老 致词 Speech by Ven. Vūpasama Thera
感谢 释迦佛陀的教导，感谢传承二千四百多年的佛教僧团，感谢二千四百多年来数不尽的佛教善信的护法，让我们在现代还能够听闻 佛陀的教导，正向菩提。
My gratitude goes to the Buddha who taught the Dhamma, to the Sangha that has lasted for over two thousand four hundred years, and to the countless devotees and Dhamma protectors during this period of over two thousand four hundred years. It is because of the above that we are able to listen to the teaching of the Buddha and practice towards enlightenment in this modern era.
Practicing and spreading the Four Noble Truths in a Chinese society is not an easy thing. There are pressures from traditional religions which we have to be up against with. When Sambodhi Monastery was set up in 1996, things were very difficult in this early period. However with the unremitting support of a few devotees and yogis, we had made it through these difficult period of over ten years. I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to these dear Dhamma friends. It was due to their support that the Sambodhi Sangha was able to continue practicing and at the same time spread the Dhamma in such difficult circumstances.
In 2002, from the textual research of Vinaya Pitaka and historical literature of Indian Buddhism, as well as the comparative study between the Chinese Samyukta Agama and the Pali Samyutta Nikaya, The Sambodhi Sangha has recovered and ascertained the Buddha’s teaching from the common text of the seven categories of samyutta.
The Buddha’s teachings that have been rediscovered and revived include the original teaching of the 12 conditioned arising together with the meditative contemplation on the 12 conditioned arising. Also recovered was the sequence progression of the Seven Enlightenment factors meditation, and the steps to Enlightenment as explained in the Four Noble Truths in their three phases and twelve aspects as well as the connection and consistency between them.
From 2002, after the ascertainment of the original teaching of the Buddha, the Sambodhi Sangha has taken upon to itself the task of spreading and passing down on the original teaching of the Buddha, and has spread the original teaching of the Buddha to Taiwan, Mainland China, USA, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. Between 2010 – 2014, the Sambodhi Sangha has set up Original Buddhism Society in Taiwan, America, Malaysia and Australia. It has also set up 14 Buddhist centres and started the Magazine “Saddhammadipa” and E newsletter.
The path of spreading the original teaching of the Buddha is painstaking, and often resulted in misunderstanding, rejection and defamation from various Buddhist traditions.
The aim of Sambodhi Sangha propagating the teaching of original Buddhism is to share with everyone the peace, joy and benefits of learning and practicing Dhamma, and to let Buddhists to get to reap the benefits of Dhamma in their actual daily lives. It is definitely not to pose a challenge to any other Buddhist traditions or sects.
Today, besides establishing the Original Buddhism Society, the Sambodhi Sangha is setting up Buddhist Society of Four Noble Truths. This is because the Four Noble Truths is the ultimate teaching of the Buddha, and at the same time is the commonly recognised teaching of all Buddhist traditions including Original Buddhism, Sectarian Buddhism, Mahayana Bodhisattva Buddhism, and Tibetan Buddhism.
The Sambodhi Sangha sincerely hope that on the common platform of Four Noble Truths, we are able to walk the Noble path with all Dhamma practitioners together, to bring benefits to the world and to join effort in making Buddhism flourish.
佛法的荣耀归于佛陀！ 佛法的成就归于僧团！ 佛法的利益归于十方！
佛日增辉 法轮常转 圣道兴隆 普照十方
Finally, I would like to say this:
The glory of the Buddha Dhamma belong to the Buddha
The accomplishment of the Buddha Dhamma goes to the Sangha
And the benefits brought about by the Buddha Dhamma belongs to all.
May the Buddha Dhamma flourish, The Dhamma Wheel keep turning;
And the Noble Path shine in all directions.
